Best Essential Oil Books and References

You have lots of essential oils but you haven’t used them in a while because you aren’t sure what to use them for. Or maybe you use them all the time but you’re stuck in a rut. So how can you use them in a different way? What else are essential oils good for? Is there a book or something I can look up stuff in? There are actually tons of books that have essential oil recipes or natural remedies. But that’s the problem! What’s the best essential oil book or website? There’s so many that it’s hard to sift through all of them to find the best ones. I’ve done some of the legwork for you and listed some of my favorite essential oil books and resources below.

THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE USING A NEW ESSENTIAL OIL RECIPE:

  • Is it diluted enough?
    • Many recipes are too strong and can cause skin irritation or sensitization (basically an allergic reaction). Pinterest has a TON of recipes like this that are way too strong. Make sure you are using essential oils safely to avoid harm to yourself or others.
  • Who made the recipe?
    • Anyone can put some oils together and call it a recipe…but the best recipes come from those who have researched each oil and tested the whole recipe several times, each time tweaking it and perfecting it before publishing it for others to use. Diffuser recipes are normally ok to use any recipe but if you are trying to cure an ailment, you want a recipe that’s researched a lot!

The best recipes come from those who have researched each oil and tested the whole recipe several times, each time tweaking it and perfecting it before publishing it for others to use.

So without further ado, here are my favorite books, websites, and other resources for essential oil uses and recipes:

BEST ESSENTIAL OIL REFERENCE BOOKS AND OTHER RESOURCES

BUTTERFLY MIRACLES WITH ESSENTIAL OILS REFERENCE BOOK

This reference book is from Butterfly Express, which is my favorite essential oil company because they take special care in muscle testing their oils for purity (on top of GC/MS testing) and they don’t just dump oils together to make a blend. They do the research and watch how blends change immensely just by changing the order that you add each of the oils together. To find out more, read Where To Buy Essential Oils: 4 Best Essential Oil Brands. You can look up each oil and its properties as well as any ailments you might have to see what oils you should use.

ESSENTIAL OIL SAFETY BY ROBERT TISSERAND

This is like the ultimate guidebook to essential oil safety. It has information about essential oil composition, toxicity, kinetics and dosing, body system information, cancer and the immune system, and profiles for every essential oil. This book goes deep but it is great for everyone to have on hand as a reference book, especially when using essential oils with kids or for major health conditions.

THE HEALING POWER OF ESSENTIAL OILS: SOOTHE INFLAMMATION, BOOST MOOD, PREVENT AUTOIMMUNITY, AND FEEL GREAT IN EVERY WAY BY ERIC ZIELINSKI, D.C.

This is like the ultimate guide for DIY recipes. This book has so many remedies and some great diffuser blends. It also goes in depth about some essential oils and gives you several ways to replace things around your home with natural, essential oil-based products. As I read this book I put tags on each recipe that I liked…but I almost tagged the whole book! This is a great book to read through!

HERBS & ESSENTIAL OILS ULTIMATE BUNDLE

This resource is so great because it’s not just 1 book, it’s several! This ultimate bundle is updated every year with new books and new recipes. I love ultimate bundles because they take the best from several resources and group them together at a great price. It includes eBooks, printables, eCourses & membership sites. You definitely don’t want to miss this resource! Best part…you get over $600 worth of resources for about $35!

ESSENTIAL OIL FLASHCARDS BY EO AND SUCH

If you want something for a quick reference…instead of pulling out a huge book, these are great! They are also great for learning more about all the individual oils and some of their properties.

best essential oil websites

I just wanted to make a quick note that not all websites are created equally! You have to be careful about the essential oil advice that you follow (especially on Pinterest!). Many recipes are way too strong or they are not carefully crafted and designed for a certain ailment. These websites have the most research that I’ve found and I trust their recipes and advice. I definitely recommend having some of the books above on hand but here are some other great websites/resources if you need more places to look or don’t have some of the books yet.

Just remember, don’t just look on Pinterest for essential oil recipes and uses, there are tons of other great resources out there that are better and safer to use.

Comment below with your favorite essential oil book or website! I’m always looking for something new to check out.
